One of the largest stocks in the region of luxury products is found at the 1000 Islands Duty Free Store on Hill Island, accessible by the Thousand Islands International Bridge. For two decades the Howard family has offered here an extensive selection of fine crystal, collectables, cosmetics and fragrances, wines, liquers and Canadian beers, as well as clothing. The products are available tax-free to visitors to Canada from the United States and elsewhere.

A veritable museum of Thousand Islands history, Corbin's is a gallery as well as a bookstore. Les Corbin, the late Clayton photographer, recorded the local scene during his lifetime and he methodically photocopied an archive of historic images from many sources. His widow, Verda, with generations of her family continues operation of the Clayton shop, offering reproductions of hundreds of historic photos as well as an expanding the stock of books and new graphic material of local relevance. Corbins has become the premier purveyor of printed material about the region's history, particularly the southern portion.

Verda Corbin, long a contributor of a regular newspaper column about local history, was co-author with husband Les of the 1987 book, The Visgers' World, recalling the lives and times of generations of a local family of excursion boat captains. Verda and grandson Shane Hutchinson also produced the 1998 book, Clayton, in the Images of America pictorial series. Verda's daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rose Hutchinson, often greets visitors in the shop.

The familiar landmark covered bridge on the highway east of Clayton marks Captain Spicer's Gallery, a destination for year-round shopping. For more than twenty years Karen Kilian and her staff have welcomed return vistors, attracted by her growing collection of regional art, books, home furnishings, clothing, and gifts. Karen herself is a collector of historical memorabilia of the region, as are others on her staff. She has commissioned unique lines of decorative items employing our Thousand Islands motifs
Karen's most popular item probably is the hand-crafted stoneware decorated with paintings of Thousand Islands scenes. Made exclusively for Capt Spicer's Gallery, many of the 1200 pieces are found in homes throughout the region and elsewhere. They have become prized collectables.

The Perfect Place, on the prominent corner nearest the Casino, anchors the several commercial blocks of King Street, the main shopping thoroughfare of Gananoque.

The Vandine family has gathered at the Perfect Place a large collection of decorative and collectable items, from framed art to gourmet food items. Notable are the many miniature porcelain houses and figurines.

For authentic character, Cook's Old World Shop has few if any rivals in the region. Founded in 1865, the Kingston gourmet emporium retains an endear-ing nineteenth-century quality in its creaky wooden floors and aroma if roasting coffee.
