How You Can Help

This sidebar explains how you can participate in this international experiment in editing a manuscript for publication. It is open to anyone around the globe who is interested in the Thousand Islands.

The draft manuscript to which you are being given access is tentatively titled "Pollack's Gazetteer of the Thousand Islands." It is protected by Copyright 2007 Ross David Pollack, who expressly permits you to view it online, and to use the information it contains on an "as is" basis for any lawful purpose, with no promise of accuracy or suitability. Please do not copy it to your hard drive or print out the database. Please do not distribute its content to others.

Please do make notes on any of the islands mentioned (or omitted), and feel free to offer corrections, amendments, extensions or suggested cuts to me at yalescribe@att.net.

Especially useful input from you will include local or alternate names for individual islands. You will see that the database has two consecutive alphabetic listings. The main listing shows current, official island names. The secondary listing shows islands by their "former names" (in quotation marks) or their "alternate names" (also in quotation marks).

Please do not bother the Webmaster or other folks at thousandislandslife.com, who have been kind enough to make space available to house this draft manuscript and to make it available to us for the purpose of this experiment in online editing before publishing in-print.

I will process your suggested edits and incorporate those that I think accurate and helpful to readers. I will endeavor to acknowledge and thank all who have contributed in that way online and in any resulting print editions (without indicating, in most cases, what your individual contribution has been).

The current plan is to keep the manuscript online for one year, or slightly longer, perhaps until a print edition is published and placed on sale. That plan may evolve and you will be notified on this web site if changes are contemplated. If the draft manuscript is taken down and replaced by a printed work, you will be told how and where to acquire it.

And, of course, thanks for your interest in my project, and thanks in advance for any editing help you can give me.
