June 11 - July 2 ~ Artist’s Exhibit, The Breakwater Gallery, Club St. The Breakwater Gallery on Club St. will have an artist’s exhibit featuring the works of Central NY Watercolor Society. The Society is a well known group of outstanding artists from central NY. The hours for the Gallery are Friday 3 pm to 7 pm, Saturday 11 am to 7 pm and Sunday 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is FREE. July 3,17,24,31- August 28 ~ Farmer’s and Crafters Market, 8 am to 2 pm, Village Green.

The weekly Farmer’s and Crafters Market sponsored by the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce continues every Saturday through August 28th. (There will not be a market on Saturday July 10th due to the French Festival.) Farmers will be selling starter plants for gardens, early vegetables and berries. There will also be crafters present with homemade wooden and handcrafted items for sale. The market is held on the Village Green located on Broadway Street in Cape Vincent and runs from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturdays. The cost to rent a space is $25.00 for the season or $5.00 per day. There are many activities planned to take place on the Village Green throughout the summer which will attract visitors to the market as well.

July 1 ~ Meet/Greet the Author, 4 pm, CV Community Library. On Thursday July 1st at 4 PM the Cape Vincent Community Library will host a wonderful opportunity. Come meet and greet a local author who loves Wolfe Island, home to many of our northern neighbors. There's much more to the island than ferries and buttertarts. July 7 ~ 2nd annual Le Café français. On Wednesday, July 7th at 6 PM, the Friends of the library will hold the 2nd annual Le Café français, an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres, fun and a French film. This year the evening will be held at the very lovely home of Sally and Urban Hirschey located on Tibbett’s Point and will benefit the library. Tickets are limited and on sale beginning June 1st at the library for a very reasonable $ 20/person. Anyone who attended last year can attest to the fabulocity of this very special event, made even more special through the generosity of the Hirscheys. Come support your library and experience the finest in wines, French cheeses and delightful canapés. The title of the film to be shown will be announced shortly.

July 10 ~ Cape Vincent’s 42nd Annual French Festival Celebration starts with an All-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast Buffet at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Market Street beginning at 7 am until all are served. July 16-18 ~ The Willie Putnam Memorial Little League Tournament will be held on July 16th through the 18th. Every third Saturday of the month, (July 17) Marybeth Hoag offers a beginner's quilt class in Cape Vincent from 8AM to 5PM for a small fee of $25.  This quilt class is held at the American Legion.  Information can be found on her website: www.customquiltsbymarybeth.com or call 315.654.4293 for information.

July 18 ~ The Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Tibbetts Point 5k-10k Run/Walk on Sunday, July 18th at Recreation Park on James Street at 10:00am. The 10k course is flat and fast. It follows the St. Lawrence 5k to a turn around at the scenic Tibbetts Point Lighthouse. The 5k course follows the same route to a 2.5k turn around. Pre-registration is $15.00, Race day $17.00. Canadian cash is accepted at par. Pre- registration ends on July 14th and money should be received by that date. Canadians please make sure all checks/money orders are in U.S. funds. The first 100 registered runners and walkers will receive a free tee shirt. There is a FREE 1k Fun Run for the kids beginning promptly at 9:30 from Recreation Park as well. Race Day registration is 8:00am to 9:45am, make checks payable to and mail to: Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 482, Cape Vincent, NY 13618. ~~ Awards will be presented following the run. There is a permanent trophy engraved with names of the male and female winners of the 5k and 10k races. Ribbons will be awarded to the first, second and third place men and women in the following age categories: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and up. July 24, 31 ~ Concert on the Green, 5 pm, Village Green: The first of this year’s Concert on the Green outdoor concert series will be Saturday, July 24 with a program to be Announced. Sponsored by the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce, Citizen’s Bank of CV, Cape Vincent Arts Council and the Town of CV, the concerts will continue on Saturdays through September 4. July 31st program is “Aaron & Claudia Karppala” with Popular tunes, August 7th is “The Paul Baldwin Blues Band” providing Classic rock. The concerts are on the Village Green from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the FREE entertainment. July 27 ~ TUESDAY JULY 27TH AT 4PM at Cape Vincent Community Library, N. Real St. 315-654-2132: Common Threads: Adirondack Quilts Tell Their Stories; A FREE event with Hallie E. Bond: Curator, Adirondack Museum. From bedcovers, plain and fancy, meant to keep families warm during long Adirondack winters, to the stunning art quilts of the twenty-first century, the quilts and comforters of this area mirror national trends as well as telling unique stories of life in the mountains. ~~ This Speakers in the Humanities event, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities

July 28 ~ CV Local Community Development, 6 pm, CV Community Library, N. Real St.

July 28 ~ The 8th annual Chopin Festival and competition sponsored by The Chopin Society of the Thousand Islands and the Cape Vincent Arts Council will kick off this season with a celebration of the music composer’s 200th birthday.  This will be a fund raising event for the September Festival. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 28th, 5 to 8 pm, at Maple Grove, E. Broadway, the Cape Vincent residence of Bruce and Lynn Taylor.

At 5 pm patrons will be welcomed with a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception.  This will be followed by a piano concert of Chopin’s works performed by Brian Preston.  The evening will be capped off by a birthday cake and champagne to the maestro.

Brian Preston, the guest artist for the evening, is the newly appointed musical director of the Chopin Society Festival.  He is a well known piano professor at Nazareth College and in Western New York.

Tickets are available from Cape Vincent Arts Council Board members, or by calling the council at 654-2413.  Individual tickets are $35.00 or for couples $60.00.  All of the proceeds will be support for the September Festival.

The Cape Vincent Community Library will be offering Family Film Night on Thursday evenings at 6 pm during July and August.

Accessible Art Watercolor Series, 2 pm, Cape Vincent Community Library, 157 North Real Street 315-654-2132

Sign up NOW for the Accessible Art programs to be held through August. The library is now accepting applications to the free adult art series. Ginger Dunlap Dietz will instruct a series of mosaic classes in July and quilt maker Marybeth Hoag will be teaching three classes for beginner quilting in July. All students will be required to exhibit their finished projects in a community art showing at the end of August. The show will also feature projects created by the teachers themselves. Class sizes are limited and open to adults only. A five dollar deposit is required to submit the application, which will be returned upon attending the class. For further details please call the library at 315-654-2132 or stop by to pick up an application. Materials will be supplied. Explore your inner talents this summer and join in the fun. It is an honor for the library to present these classes which were made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. Without the generosity of organizations and grants like these, the library could not afford to present such wonderful opportunities.

June 1- Aug 15 ~ “Focus on Cape Vincent” Amateur Photo Contest begins. “Focus on the Cape” 2010 Annual Amateur Photo Contest

Sponsored by the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of this contest is to generate a photo library for use by the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce for the promotion of the Cape Vincent area.

Rules: Color photographs taken in and about the Town of Cape Vincent will be accepted. All photos become the property of the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce and will not be returned. The photographer will receive recognition for any photo used by the Chamber in the promotion of the area. Photos may span any of our seasons and may include such categories as: People Historical Events Action Landscapes (no domesticated animals please)

No more than Four (4) entries per person will be accepted.

Photographs entered may not be smaller than 4 x 6 or larger than 8 x 10 and may be matted but easily removable for use in a scanner. Matting is not required. Entries may be submitted between June 1st and August 15th. High quality digital photos are acceptable. Enhanced digital photographs will not be considered. (No date stamps or text on photos please.)

Eligibility: No persons directly or indirectly affiliated with a photographic company are eligible to participate. Three photographs will be selected as First, Second, and Third Place. There will be recognition for one People’s Choice Honorable Mention chosen by ballots submitted by visitors to the Chamber office. Cash Awards and plaques will be presented to the winners at the Annual Chamber of Commerce Fall Dinner in September.

Doors will open at 6:00 PM and the drawings will begin at 7:00.  The items on the trays are of varied themes, always interesting, and are donated by area merchants. Light refreshments will be served. August 7- The Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Auto’s on the River car show on from 11:00 pm until 4:00 pm around the Village Green on Broadway Street. Categories include pre 1950, 1950-59, 1960-69, 1970-79, 1980-89, 1990-present, Street Rod and Truck. There will also be awards for the Best of Show category. Pre-registration fee is $10.00 and $12.00 the day of the show. Events for the day include a Hula-Hoop contest, Bubble gum blowing contest, face painting and music. The Cape Vincent Sons of the American Legion will have “Eli” the 1917 Ambulance on display. The Farmer’s & Crafter’s Market is located on the Green from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Cape Vincent Arts Council and the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce sponsor the FREE Concert on the Green from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Republican Fundraising Event: The Cape Vincent Republican Party is sponsoring a two hour Ms. Clayton cruise on Saturday, August 14 from 5:30 to 7:30. The cost is $30 per person and is only available to 55 people. The proceeds will be used to fund communications and candidate expenses. This will be a sell out event. DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL: Monday, August 16th the Cape Vincent Arts Council will sponsor a documentary film festival. There will be five films shown starting in the morning and running into the evening. Films will be shown at the Cape Vincent Library and donations will be taken. More details, including film titles and showing times will be available soon.

August 21 – The United Church will have a Pork Dinner in the Memorial Hall behind the church on Broadway St. beginning at 4:00 pm until all are served. August 21 - The Non-Profit Organizations of Cape Vincent have joined forces to sponsor an event called A Day on the River scheduled for Saturday August 21st . This is a FREE family fun event that is based on activities on and around the St. Lawrence River. Organizations that have participated in the past are the Coast Guard Auxiliary with “Coastie” the robot, Fishers Landing Racing Club and many others. There will be children’s painting and display, sidewalk art, face painting and more. A free Concert on the Green starring Dave and Sarah Parker will be from 5:00 to 7:00. August 20- 22– The Cape Vincent Recreation Park Commission is hosting the Celeste LeTendre Memorial Tennis Tournament at the recreation park tennis courts on South James Street. The events include men’s and women’s open, men’s and women’s doubles, men’s and women’s 45 and over and mixed doubles. The fees for the singles are $8.00 American and Canadian funds and for doubles the fee is $10.00 American and in Canadian funds.
