An amazing story of tragedy and courage. And very well written. I had never heard anything about it. Our old River holds many such secrets. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Brian, I have heard versions of this story-yours is well written. Do you know the age of John Lacey at the time of the accident? Don't know if this is my grandfather or my Uncle Jack who would have been in his twenties. Julie

Julie, John Lacey Sr. was 58 at the time of the accident. He had just been discharged from Hotel Dieu hospital after 'investigation of a heart condition' and was on his way home. Brian Johnson

Beautifully written! Love the descriptions of the boats and the ice changes at spring.
